Closing the gender gap in technology across Africa

Program & Partners
Nigeria Georgia

She Code Africa is a nonprofit organization dedicated to equipping African women and girls with the skills, community, and opportunities they need in the digital economy. Their vision is an Africa where women are equally represented across all career paths and leadership levels in technology.

The organization provides a wide range of training in technology disciplines through its Schools of Engineering, Product, and Applied Skills. Participants develop expertise in software engineering, cloud engineering, data science, data analytics, robotics, product management, technical writing, community management, and open-source contribution. Programs are practical and project-based, giving learners hands-on experience while connecting them with mentors, peers, and industry professionals.

The need for this work is significant. According to McKinsey, women account for just 47% of STEM graduates in Africa. Of those graduates, only 23–30% enter the technology workforce, and fewer than 10% advance to leadership positions. At every stage of the pipeline, talented women face barriers that limit their opportunities and economic potential.

By ensuring learners have laptops and internet connection, we help more women gain the skills, confidence, and opportunities needed to build successful careers in technology.

Social norms favoring boys' education. Caregiving duties. Limited access to education. Fewer mentors. Underrepresentation in tech. These are the barriers women across Africa face in pursuing tech careers. We're here to help change that, and that's why we partner with She Code Africa.
