U.S. medical professors teach emergency medicine remotely to students in Gaza.
In response to the crisis in Gaza, the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative (HHI) offers a remote educational program to train local students in emergency medicine and public health. During the program, students participate in live case-based training in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Neurology and other medical specialties. This training is critical for building the medical capacity needed to save lives on the ground.
Frequent blackouts, heavily restricted internet infrastructure, and high internet fees mean students are often cut off from their classrooms.
To help students consistently access the program despite ongoing challenges, we organize a community co-working space equipped with reliable high-speed internet, electricity, and a study environment. The space provides students with a supportive setting where they can participate in weekly virtual training sessions, collaborate with peers, and stay connected to their medical education during a period of major disruption.
Instead of being forced to halt their studies, these future healthcare workers now have the practical tech tools they need to participate in emergency training, and apply what they learn directly within their communities.
